Change of Plans

On June 11, 2011 · 3 Comments

At Centralia, I looked at my map to see where I’d likely stay the next night.  If I rode my usual 60-70 miles, then I was faced with either Coal Creek (population: 32) or an 80 miler to Cathlamet (population: 565).  I chose to go off route to Longview (population: 34,680).

Days Five and Six: Poulsbo to Shelton to Centralia

On June 7, 2011 · 2 Comments

The past couple days have blended together. Other than the towns where I have stayed, I can’t recall any of the towns I have passed or at which I briefly stopped. Each street being either farm- lined or pine-lined and each town containing one pub, one grocery store, one truck repair, and one Subway.

Day Four: Deception Pass to Poulsbo

On June 6, 2011 · 1 Comment

Day Two: Rain and Pain

On June 3, 2011 · 7 Comments

The day started early again at the hostel. I was in a large dorm-style room with 15 other guys, so I woke up soon after the first guy woke up. I ate, got my stuff together, and headed out. It was raining heavily, but the quiet streets of Vancouver were still enjoyable. The Vancouver streets [...]

Day One: New York to Vancouver

On June 2, 2011 · 1 Comment

Today started at 4:15am. Samantha and I put my two panniers and my carefully boxed bike into the Subie and drove to Newark, which was especially smelly and buggy this morning. I was told to bring my boxed bike over to the large man that handles all the oversized luggage. I should have put it [...]

The Plan

On May 31, 2011 · 5 Comments

The plan is to ride my bike from Vancouver, BC to the Mexican border at Imperial Beach, CA.

The ride will be approximately 1,850 miles and I will be following the Pacific Coast route from Adventure Cycling.  It’ll likely take a month, give or take, to complete the ride, setting an average daily distance [...]
